Breakout Edu

Before the break, we shared our Innovative Grant winners for the year, and now it's time to share more about each of their projects with you! Two of our 3rd grade teachers at East Village Elementary, Ms. Henley & Mrs. Poynter, challenged their students to "breakout" of the box using critical thinking skills, collaboration, creativity, and communication! Similar to popular escape rooms, students must solve a series of objectives related to literacy in order to complete the project. These Breakout Kits are a unique way for student to become more engaged in literacy while also working on skills that will allow them to be more college, career, & world ready! How great is that?! And it looks like they had fun doing it!

Through our Innovative Grant program, made possible by your sponsorships and donations to our annual Stem Soiree, teachers have the opportunity to submit an idea or project through an application, and if their project is chosen, they receive money for materials and supplies along with a reward for trying something new. We believe it is important to encourage teachers to seek out and implement teaching strategies that reach all types of learners and to reward them for thinking outside of the box!
