Students in grades 3rd-6th are gearing up for EVE's 2nd Annual Chess Tournament. During the school year students in 3rd- 6th grade get the opportunity to learn the fundamental of chess in our Master Minds class. This class is taught by Mr. Mel Robinson. Students learn to win with humility and lose with grace, understanding that the true essence of chess lies not just in victory, but in the journey of self-improvement and growth. By the end of the class, students emerge as confident and capable chess players, equipped with the knowledge and skills to enjoy this timeless game for years to come. We are looking forward to our students demonstrating what they have learned on Thursday.

Where were you August 21, 2017? Our DTK6 staff and students were viewing the eclipse from our playground. Here are some flashback photos from that event. Do you recognize anyone in these pics? This year, we will not be at school, but we can still view this spectacular event from our homes. Thank you to Arkansas STEM Coalition for our eclipse glasses! Let us know what your plans are for the day!

Last Thursday evening, some of our Downtown Elementary 6th graders attended “Discovering Excellence in AR” at the Museum of Discovery. This event aims at introducing students to the many STEM career paths available in Arkansas. Scientists from various disciplines conducted hands-on activities during the evening to engage students and to talk about businesses and careers in STEM. Mrs. Mohiuddin, one of our 6th grade math and science teachers, has taken a group to this event for the past 4 years. She said, "It’s a great learning experience, and I am glad our students have the opportunity to participate." Miles Adams, Taylor Robinson, Josiah Ngampa Glynn, Ivy Cates, Erik Ellis and Leif Ellis were the students who were nominated to attend the event along with their parents.
