ParaProfessional Responsibilities:

About the Position

Para Professional Special education aides work under the overall supervision of their building Director and LEA Supervisor with direct supervision provided by special education teachers. They are employed when eStem is required to implement special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students. Their duties will vary depending upon the age of students served as well as the nature and severity of the student’s disabilities.

Instructional Delivery

  • Assisting in delivering quality instruction/lessons created by teachers
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with students and teachers based on trust and respect
  • Providing instructional support within the special education and general education classroom as needed in order to meet students’ needs
  • Communicating high expectations for behavior by teaching, practicing and reinforcing rules and consequences
  • Approaching practice with a sense of urgency- maximizing every minute
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records
  • Assuming responsibility for student achievement
  • Providing feedback to teachers about students’ progress and needs
  • Engaging in constant learning
  • Collaborating with content and grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor
  • Consistently reflecting on instructional practices through formal and informal methods and working relentlessly to meet individual and professional development goals
  • Meeting professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines and honoring schedules
  • Working to become knowledgeable about best practices in working with students with learning disabilities and challenging behavior
  • Embracing feedback and constructive criticism in the spirit of constant improvement
  • Participating actively in developing and following through with individualized learning plans and behavior plans for students
  • Assisting in the daily functioning of the school as necessary
  • Escorting, assisting, and/or supervising student(s) during play periods, movement throughout the building, toileting routines, lunch, snack, specialized and inclusive classes, community activities and other times as designated
  • Guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the teacher
  • Performing other duties related to Special Education, as assigned by teacher or administrator

What you should have...

The following are required of all applicants:

  • Experience working with students
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • 60 hours of college credit
  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in special education preferred but not required

eVisor Responsibilities:

About the Position

eVisors are eStem’s part time employees that supervise the children during lunch, recess and dismissal. eVisors work Monday thru Friday with 2 shifts per day: Lunch/Recess shift is 10:30-1:30 and Dismissal shift is 3:20-4:50. Employment is part-time with an estimated 20 hours per week with pay at $12/hr.

Lunch/Indoor or Outdoor Recess:

Successful performance requires that the employee be able to establish rapport and gain the respect of students.

The eStem eVisor role includes (but is not limited to):

  • Circulating among the tables during the mealtime in order to be available to children who need help and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of tables and surrounding areas by wiping tables when students leave the cafeteria
  • Assisting in establishing, implementing and supervising orderly disposal of trays and dismissal from the cafeteria
  • Directing students' movement and ensuring that students are transitioning to and from playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner
  • Organizing group games and activities as needed
  • Observing and controlling student behavior in non-classroom activities including, but not limited to, lunch time activities and recesses
  • Informing immediate Supervisor of any serious infraction of discipline rules by students
  • Performing any other duties or responsibilities designated by the eVisor Supervisor and/or Coordinator
  • Professionally representing the school in interactions with parents, community, staff and students
  • Assisting teachers in classroom supervision
  • Maintaining simple records
  • Enforcing school policies and rules
  • •Demonstrating Social/Emotional Intelligence or the willingness to improve and learn

Dismissal

  • Assisting in the orderly dismissal of students to locations for parent pick-up at the end of the school day
  • Circulating among students throughout the dismissal procedure and assisting in maintaining proper student discipline
  • Communicating effectively with other eVisors to ensure student safety
  • Checking identification of any adults not on authorized list for release and communicating with eVisor Supervisor for approval
  • Informing immediate Supervisor of any serious infraction to the discipline policy
  • Performing any other duties or responsibilities designated by the eVisor Supervisor and/or Coordinator
  • Professionally representing the school in interactions with parents, community, staff and students
  • Demonstrating Social/Emotional Intelligence or the willingness to improve and learn
